My feelings are just beginning to show, and my love is stirring

The story between her and me begins on the first day of university.

That day, the sun was shining brightly. The campus was filled with freshmen dragging luggage and senior students bustling about. I was worrying about the registration process sheet in my hand. The dense words made me dizzy. At this moment, a clear voice rang in my ear: “Classmate, are you looking for the registration place?” I’ll take you there.” As soon as I looked up, I saw her. She had her hair tied up in a high ponytail, her eyes shining brightly and her smile as bright as the sun. It immediately dispelled my nervousness and confusion as a newcomer.

Since then, our interactions gradually increased. The school organized various club activities, and she pulled me to sign up for the volunteer club together. We often went to the nursing home to visit the elderly, help them clean their rooms and chat with them. Once, an old grandma held our hands, kept saying words of gratitude, and even gave us the small handicrafts she had made. Looking at the old lady’s wrinkled yet sincere face, we exchanged glances. At that moment, I felt a particularly warm sensation in my heart. I thought she probably had the same feeling.

The days passed at a leisurely pace. I found myself increasingly looking forward to meeting her. Every time I saw her, my heart was pounding like a little deer. We would share snacks with each other during breaks, sit next to each other in the library and read books together. Occasionally, when our eyes met, we would quickly move away, and our faces would blush.

Once, the school held a sports meeting. She participated in the women’s 800-meter long-distance race. I stood by the track, my eyes not daring to leave her for a moment. When the starting gun fired, she shot out like an arrow leaving the bowstring. But by the second lap, she seemed to be running out of energy and her pace slowed down. I was extremely anxious. While running after her, I shouted loudly, “Come on! You can do it!” She heard my voice, raised her head to look at me, then gritted her teeth and quickened her pace. She crossed the finish line. I hurried over, handed her the water and towel I had prepared earlier, and asked her with concern if she was feeling unwell. She was panting but smiled at me and said, “Thanks to your cheering me on, I was able to hold on.” Looking at her sweaty hair and flushed cheeks, at that moment, I felt as if I had fallen in love with her. This kind of affection was the urge to always take care of her and protect her.

On the day I confessed my love, I was so nervous that my palms were sweating. I had decorated the lake by the school with some colorful lights and flowers in advance and prepared a notebook filled with my innermost thoughts. In the evening, I invited her to the lake. When she appeared in front of me, I was so nervous that my tongue was tied up and I couldn’t speak for a long time. She looked around at the decorations, her eyes full of surprise and confusion. I took a deep breath. Summon up your courage and say, “I…” I have liked you for a long time. Ever since we first met, I have felt that you are very different. Every moment I spend with you makes me very happy. I want to be with you all the time. Would you like to be my girlfriend? Having said that, I looked at her nervously, my heart pounding like a little rabbit in my pocket.

She looked at me quietly, her eyes glistening with tears. After a while, she nodded gently and said, “I do.” At that moment, I felt as if the whole world had lit up, and the colorful lights around seemed to have become even more brilliant. I hugged her tightly, as if I had embraced the entire world.

This experience of the initial budding of affection and the stirring of love is like a beautiful piece of music playing in my heart, becoming the most beautiful memory in my life. I know that the road ahead is still long, but as long as she is by my side, I am filled with courage and strength. I will protect this hard-won love well.
